“For ten years, my wife and I lived in Medellín, Colombia, her home town. After our divorce, | considered moving to a new city. Mexico City was a clear option. I had visited the city a number of times over the years and had formed friendships and professional connections there. The city's high desert light and moderate shift of seasons drew me toward it, as did the Aztec and Spanish imprints on the city's surfaces and culture. The international level of its restaurants, museums, bars, and galleries brought richness to everyday living. Geographically the city straddles the life I had developed in Colombia on one side and in the United States with my family and friends on the other…”

Tom Griggs is a photographer, writer, and educator born in the United States and currently living between Medellín, Colombia and Mexico City. He has spent much of the last thirteen years teaching at the Universidad de Antioquia and at Fundación Universitaria Bellas Artes in Medellín, and at the ICP online. His last photobook, A Creature Obeys a Creature That Wants, was named one of the best photobooks of 2023 by Mark Power and Alec Soth.
