Soledades — Gilles Roudière. Published by Lamaindonne Editions.
As soon as I open Soledades, my Heart jumps up and runs to the front seat because she recognises something she loves. My Brain wants to be there too. Because of memories. And to investigate. What is going on there in the darks? Strong shadows challenging two-dimensionality, (re)shaping reality. "Oh, but I love that!", cries Heart. "Please split up, you drive me crazy", I tell them. But Brain: "Right here is enough space and solitude for all!" And Heart: "I can feel that. But also intimacy… Let me lead you…"
It's dark, warm and gloomy here. I’m stuck with these kids, and can’t let go of a book that wants to “fall like a branch that flows on the water before he is lost”.* But I don't fear; I feel it will never reach the sea if you pick its story.
*from Soledades, a collection of modernist poems by Antonio Machado, the inspiration for this book.
Viory Schellekens is a photographer with a background in journalism. She fills her home in The Hague with photobooks, and this year she is producing her 10th List-of-Lists, a compilation of mostly some 100 year-end-lists made by more than 200 luminaries and devotees involved in the art of photobooks. Related is the Meta-List, which shows which books were most mentioned this year. It also gives a quick overview of all who selected your published work. Both anthologies will be published and daily updated on her Facebook page. Got a list too? Let her know!
