The Glacier is a Being — Julian Stettler. Published by Sturm & Drang.
A late 2023 release, this expansive and imaginative document of our current environmental crisis and the Anthropocene, focuses specifically on the glaciers of the Swiss Alps. It prompted me to think of the philosopher Gaston Bachelard and his dichotomy of scientific reasoning and poetic imagination, two methods for understanding the world. This book provides both views, a rational and a poetic, through various texts. This furthers our understanding scientifically but also encourages a state of reverie, in which we can imagine new possibilities, and unlock understandings, untethered to the limits of logic. A very fresh take on landscape photography.
