Thalia — Robert Adams. Published by Fraenkel Gallery.
It comforts me that the octogenarian Robert Adams is still pointing the way. He photographs a bust of the Greek goddess, Thalia, a muse for pastoral poets, positioned by a window in his home. Adams writes, “Despite the world’s periodic darkness, an anonymous sculptor recorded serenity in a human face.” A balm for our troubled moment, and reminiscent of Atget’s late work at the Parc de Sceaux. Beautifully printed by Meridian Printing in Rhode Island. I warn you though—it is a brief book, with 16 Tritones over 20 pages.
