Louis Carlos Bernal — Louis Carlos Bernal. Published by Aperture.
I knew Lou Bernal and it was immediately apparent why he could make the intimate portraits and interiors he did – he had a charismatic personality. Friendly and open, inquisitive, he photographed Chicano culture long before anyone else had thought to do so. He worked in color at a time it was considered “new” in art photography. He died too young, but his photographs stand the test of time and seem as pertinent and alive today as when they were made.
