Ein Dorf 1950 – 2022 — Ute Mahler, Werner Mahler & Ludwig Schirmer. Published by Hartmaan Books.
This book is not only a long-term depiction of the small village that served to produce Germany's most prominent couple of photographers. It also portrays a large part of post-World War 2 German history, in particular its East German aspect (long neglected in the reunified country). Ein Dorf should be seen as a contemporary companion piece to August Sander's cataloguing of the German people. One obviously cannot comprehend the German people in their entirety. But focusing on a small part, a small village, serves to reveal much about this troubled nation.
