Auto-Photo — Alan Adler. Published by Perimeter Editions x Centre for Contemporary Photography.
This book is a joy and slightly chaotic. It fits well in the hand and isn’t really a traditional photography book, but rather follows the physical evolution of a man who maintains and repairs photo booths and uses himself as the test subject. It’s modest, unpretentious, fun, and more fun. Plus, it provides the history of the photo booth, another small part of the larger whole that photography is.
Fred Cray lives in Brooklyn and works daily in the studio, usually producing one-off unique photographs. Many of these photographs are left out in the world for people to find or are incorporated into small-run handcrafted photobooks.
