The Makeshift City — Joshua Dudley Greer. Published by GOST Books.
Greer’s second monograph collects recent photos of his adopted hometown Atlanta. The city might be considered a microcosm of contemporary America, developing and diversifying rapidly with an eye toward the future, yet with one foot still stuck in the muddy past. Greer documents various locations with clear eyed precision, in the vein of Shore and Sternfeld. Gost’s production is spartan and direct, with the focus on photographs rather than design quirks. The book is a timepiece of sorts, and it should become only more interesting in future decades.
