Julia Borissova's Favorite Books of 2023

Correspondence — Hajime Kimura.   Published by IBASHO & the(M) éditions.

This is not the first book by Hajime Kimura in my collection. What attracts me to his work is his consistent exploration of the properties of time and memory, and in this case the theme — what might contemporary archaeology be like, and the approach — how can the memory of a place be incorporated into the image itself?

The fascinating meticulousness of the design and layout work creates an art object reminiscent of an artist-researcher's diary as a message to posterity. I would love to be the person who finds this artifact in the future!

Julia Borissova is an artist who creates artist's books by reinterpreting personal stories/historical facts, combining photography, collage, installation and other techniques. She is located in St. Petersburg, Russia.
