Amma by Vasantha Yogananthan. Published by Chose Commune.
I really wanted to be able to laud two books, Amma and Cabin Fever (Katie Burnett) with completely different senses of time and space. Vasantha Yogananthan’s Amma is a sensuously made book with tipped-in images many photographed in a classic manner and then some of which are hand painted. There’s a sense of magic realism throughout this book which concludes a seven volume project, A Myth of Two Souls. What gets me is the teetering between being part of a larger universal whole and the sense that things are just about to fall apart into nothing.
