Rob Hornstra’s Favorite Book from 2020

The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Illusion of an Everlasting Summer by Alessandra Sanguinetti.   Published by Mack.

I am a huge fan of The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of their Dreams by photographer Alessandra Sanguinetti, published in 2010. In the first place because I know from experience how complicated it is to keep a book exciting when it's about just two people. Give it a try. After ten to fifteen good photos you're often done. This book remains exciting from start to finish and then back again, and balances beautifully between raw reality and sweet romance, between narrative photography and poetry. It is humorous and touching. And above all, it's incredibly beautiful photography. Recently Michael Mack published the new edition of The Adventures of Guille and Belinda from ages 14 to 24. I am again smashed because of all the above remarks. An instant classic of extraordinary quality.
