Regina Anzenberger's favorite book from 2018

Handmade books are my passion and therefore Julia Borissova’s book is a masterpiece photobook for me. A combination of found and her own images, origami art, sewing and stitching creates an imaginary journey in the footsteps of one of the first balloonists, Charles Leroux, who was born in America and died at the age of 32 while performing a parachute jump in Tallinn. The edition is 239 copies, as Leroux made 239 jumps. The book is at the intersection of a real story and Julia Borissova’s reflection about the concept of falling. It is a permanent surprise from one page to the next. Unfolding and discovering, amazement and admiration makes the book an unforgettable experience.

Regina Anzenberger's favorite book from 2018

Jamais je ne T'oublierai is the perfect Christmas gift, and has been my most striking discovery at Paris Photo this year. A book about family, about missing the loved ones and about the value they had for oneself. Found photographs from the fleamarket, partly painted with gold, become like everybody’s own family life of ancestors.

Thinking that Carolle Benitah is not the first one who worked with gold color to paint photographs this work is extraordinary succeeded in form and content, a beautiful object and perfectly produced. So far for me also the best works I have seen by the artist whose pictures and books I follow for more than 10 years

Photography as poetry in its purest form — So I would describe Miho Kajioka’s pictures. This book is the first time her pictures are shown in a larger format and this surprise is a wonderful one. For the special edition, Miho has created a wooden box. The lid is coated with the picture printed on rice paper and it perfectly works as an artwork you can hang on the wall. Each edition comes with a different motif. Here we see that the book becomes an art object and the other way around. The book has three parts to leaf and consists of different papers. In December 2021 Ibasho will publish a regular edition of only the book in a small print run.
