Jonathan Blaustein's favorite book from 2018

2018 is one of those years that I'll be glad to see go come December 31st. The absolute insanity that has plagued America in particular, and global geo-politics in general, feels overwhelming, and in my opinion is best countered with a healthy dose of absurdity. Aunt Paloma Was a Pigeon perfectly captures this spirit of creative rebellion, as it seamlessly blends graphic design, original text, and well-crafted photographs into one beautiful, original photobook. As to the question of whether humans could have evolved from birds (rather than apes), the book makes one throw up one's hands and say, "Is it really crazier than anything I read in the news these days?"
