My goal as an artist is to produce work that engages the viewer aesthetically and intellectually that also moves beyond mere entertainment to something that asks the viewer to think critically. I consider myself a documentary style photographer, one that uses the visual language to create a photographic narrative, however, I also strive to make sure that each photograph stands for itself, with as much dynamic range, intellectual understanding and beauty as the entire photographic project.
I attempt to highlight the conflict felt by the viewer’s experience of that which is inclusive (drawing you into the photograph) and that which remains exclusive (realizing you are simply a spectator).
I am also interested in producing work that relates to my Hispanic background. Stories of my father’s childhood in Cuba have given me great ideas to work with. I strongly feel that the projects I confront enrich my life by teaching me who I am as an immigrant living in the United States and this gives me a strong desire to share my experiences with others through my images.
I am a photographer that uses all medium, what's important is the image.
