NEW ARRIVALS +  08.25.12 Vol 9.34

oyeme Published by Luna Press, Joséphine Sacabo’s Oyeme Con Los Ojos (Hear Me With Your Eyes) is a retrospective catalog published on the occasion of the artist’s exhibition at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Her haunting silver portraits and captivating photogravures take the viewer on a surreal journey through a dark and mysterious narrative. Bringing together sixty-eight images, this collection is a staggering body of work that showcases the photographer’s evolution from photojournalist to fine artist. Signed copies are now in stock and are available for order.

Also by Josephine Sacabo, Nocturnes further explores the artist’s curious and often magical narrative. Encased in an elaborately designed book, the photographs are accompanied by a series of Dalt Wonk’s poems that are individually printed on sheets of vellum. The collaboration furthers the mystery and meaning of the photographer’s work, creating a dream-like landscape to lose oneself in. Signed copies are now in stock and are available for order.

Photoworks 18: Futures Past: History, Memory and Nostalgia provides commentary on photography’s transition from analogue to digital. The issue focuses primarily on the tension between the two mediums with often strange artist interpretations as well as groundbreaking explorations into how artists are using the digital canvas to convey this transition. Copies are now in stock and are available for order.

"The passing of time imparts a certain magic on photography, which is especially true of the new book from David Armstrong published by Morel. Taken in New York in 1979, the images depict vibrant, creative youth, Armstrong and his friends at the short-lived but influential Mudd Club and on frequent trips to Cape Cod. He had taken images as an experiment more than anything else; continuing to pursue his portraiture, his long-time friend Nan Goldin encouraged him to carry around a 35mm camera, which he did for about nine months. It was the first time he'd ever shot in color. At the time Armstrong decided not to show the work because of the obvious similarities to Goldin, and while there are plenty of similarities to be seen, it's also clear that these images were made with a very different eye." — from Sarah Bradley's post of Night and Day on photo-eye Blog.
