God Jul & Gott Nytt Ar is a collection of photographs made into Christmas cards taken by Gerry Johansson and sent to family and friends between the years of 1978 and 2011. Taken in his hometown of Höganäs, Sweden, the images are brilliant depictions of celebratory holiday scenes. And while the decorations and lights attempt to capture a jovial time of year, Johansson has masterfully highlighted the ordinary in these holiday displays. The photographs are often lonely with an evening fog adding to the atmosphere the photographer creates. Beautifully designed and published by the Gun Gallery, each copy is signed on the front cover. Copies are now in stock and available for order.
Eden is a Magic World by Miguel Calderón is an odd tale of fan obsession played out in a real life soap opera. The story begins when eighteen-year old Korean Choi Chun Moon begins a fantasy-like attraction to the young Mexican soap opera star Flor Eduarda. Moon's letters to Eduarda demand attention and his attempts to reach out to her appear as a desperate act of infatuation. As the years progress and Moon continues to write to Eduarda, the actress has grown older, living an adventurous social life and maturing into womanhood. Accompanied by Moon's letters are photographs of Eduarda's coming of age, depicting a distinct difference between Moon's fantasy and Eduarda's reality. Picked as a Best Book of 2011 by Alec Soth and Horacio Fernández, copies are now in stock and available for order.
Retrieved by Charlotte Dumas offers a striking portrait of 15 search and rescue dogs used to locate survivors in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. Taken a decade after the attacks, these pictures display a subtle and intimate view of these now elderly canine workers. The dogs are seen at their homes and usually carry an air of wisdom in their face. Picked as a Best Book of 2011 by John Jenkins, copies are now in stock and available for order.
Naître, Mourir, Renaître Encore... or "life is a round cycle" by Japanese photographer Masami Takenouchi is a small and intimate book filled with metaphors and symbolic references. While modest in size, this book has been edited to closely resemble the title's meaning. Photographs of religious symbols, everyday occurrences, blooming flowers and self-portraits weave together to create a dialogue by the photographer that touches on the collective unconscious and surrounding influence. Limited to 120 copies, signed and numbered by the artist, copies are now in stock and available for order.
Francesca Woodman: Photographs 1977-1981 is a celebration of the young artist's friendship with Giuseppe Casetti and Paolo Missiogoi, owners of the Maldoror bookstore in Rome. While visiting Rome, Woodman presented the bookstore owners with a box of her photographs, prompting her first solo exhibition at the Maldoror in 1978. Throughout the years, Woodman would send images, letters, drawings and postcards to the Maldoror. The book compiles this previously unpublished collection in a scrapbook narrative that is beautiful in design. Picked as a Best Book of 2011 by Todd Hido, copies are arriving soon and are available for order.
Two new titles by Michael Kenna are arriving soon. Published by Gallery K.O.N.G., the first edition of Tranquil Morning and second edition of Philosopher's Tree continue Kenna's unique style of minimalist landscapes and long exposures. A limited number of signed copies will be arriving soon and are available for order.
