NEW ARRIVALS +  02.19.11 Vol 8.8

Quota Mille Featured in this week’s newsletter, two new publications by Punctum Press. First, photographer Francesco Fossa’s deeply engaging Quota Mille — a journey through the Matese mountain range of central Italy. The harsh landscape and people who live within it become the primary focus of Fossa’s imagery, creating a dynamic series of photographs displaying an old world caught between the contemporary realities of a changing social environment. Fossa’s camera captures the simplicity of life and the humanity of the people living in the Matese Mountains allowing for a slow and engrossing dialogue between subject and viewer. Copies of this stunning monograph are now in stock and available for order.

Ecclesia This week's second book from Punctum Press, Ecclesia by photographer Giuliano Matteucci offers a series of beautiful panoramic images taken of small churches and their members in rural Mali. While the photographs are stunning, the documentary nature of Matteucci’s accordion fold monograph is deeply contemplative. The chapels depicted are symbols of historical colonialism and are powerful reminders of the days when missionaries would travel to rural villages organizing Christian community centers. While initially focusing on the spare interiors of the chapels, Matteucci expanded his view to show both intimate portraits of the church members and the expansive landscape where these chapels have been erected. Copies of this beautiful monograph are now in stock and available for order.

Also of note, copies of Crushed by prolific photographer and publisher Jason Fulford are now back-in-stock. Crushed is Fulford’s first monograph and highlights the photographer’s keen abilities to capture the ordinary in a formally beautiful and nostalgic capacity. While Fulford’s other monographs, Raising Frogs for Money and The Mushroom Collector offer a more cohesive concept and book design, Crushed focuses on simply stunning images. Copies are now in stock and available for order.

Also back-in-stock, signed copies of Findings by photo-eye Gallery artist Hiroshi Watanabe. Featuring some of Watanabe’s most seminal images, Findings is a breathtaking look at a wandering photographer — making images that are both intellectually engaging and simply beautiful. A winner of the 2005 Photolucida Critical Mass book awards, this stunning monograph is now out-of-print; however we have a limited number of copies available for order.

Please note that adding a book to your shopping cart does not reserve a copy; orders must be finalized to appear in our system. However, due to the extremely limited number of some books, we cannot guarantee a copy for every finalized order. New Arrivals and Back-in-Stock items were in stock at the time that this newsletter was sent. Orders will be filled on a first come, first served basis until sold-out. We reserve the right to limit quantities.
