NEW ARRIVALS +  10.16.10 Vol 7.42

Who Will Stay Arriving soon, copies of who will stay { for robert gates }, from renowned artist and bookmaker Raymond Meeks. Meeks' artist books are unusually powerful examples of the possibilities promised by independent publishing; beautiful short form studies presented with a gentle sincerity, they are significantly strengthened by having the same hand photograph, write, design, bind and distribute them. Because Meeks' work is explicitly personal, the method of production acts as a material signifier, lending his disclosures the grace to be intimate rather than expository. who will stay { for robert gates } is available in three different versions, softcover, softcover w/ carbon print and Deluxe Edition w/ 2 carbon prints and 1 silver gelatin print. Copies are arriving soon and are now available to preorder.

Also arriving soon, copies of Stag Film from photographer & filmmaker Steven Klein, published by JMc & GHB Editions. Though he recently directed a Lady GaGa video, Klein is probably best known for his seminal collaboration with Madonna in a W Magazine photo shoot, a traveling interdisciplinary exhibition and exquisite limited edition photobook titled X-STaTIC PRo=CeSS. Though they may surprise some viewers mostly familiar with the aforementioned works, the formal black & white studies of equestrian "studding" in Stag Film are a wonderful testament to Klein's ability to engage with photographic history and formalist language through the same uneasy transgression as has propelled his career in the fashion world — in this case, a truly virtuoso combination of equal parts Muybridge and Mapplethorpe. Released in a trade edition plus 100 Signed Limited Editions with framed print. Copies arriving soon, now available to preorder.

Also of note, Dutch photographer Cuny Janssen's monograph, My Grandma Was a Turtle. Published by Snoeck, this beautifully designed book offers a series of portraits of children with Native American ancestry, and is accompanied by a series of landscapes in and around Bartlesville, Oklahoma (where all of the images were taken). Many of the images are hand-pasted into the book and arranged in a style that suggests the viewer is looking at a family album rich with history. This work was also shown at Foam Fotografia Museum, Amsterdam in April of this year. My Grandma Was a Turtle is now out of print and we only have a few copies left.

Now in stock, The Mushroom Collector by photographer Jason Fulford, a project that started when a friend of Fulford's gave him a box full of photographs of mushrooms accompanied with notes for mycological studies. These found photographs resonated in Fulford's mind and inspired him to create the images seen in this monograph. The Mushroom Collector weaves a story about the project and includes the original found photographs of mushrooms as well as those by Fulford. Signed copies arriving in 2-4 weeks.
