Coming soon, signed copies of Past Present Peru the newest monograph from artist, musicologist and writer John Cohen, published by Steidl in Germany. Cohen began documenting Peru in 1956, returning often over the following decades to photograph, record music and take film footage. Of this work, the field recordings have seen the most recognition; a Peruvian wedding song was included on the Voyager Golden Record and the entire audio collection is now housed at the Smithsonian. This ambitious publication brings the entirety of Cohen's "fragmented collection of visual insights," on Peru together for the first time, in an ambitious publication of textiles, photographs, music and film in two volumes, 3 CDs and 5 DVDs, united by a slipcase and Cohen's masterful writing which is personal, insightful and erudite. Signed copies of this exquisite publication will be arriving soon and are now available for preorder.
