NEW ARRIVALS +  06.04.10 Vol 7.23

Just arrived at our warehouse, two thematically related, new publications from Hatje Cantz: Beate Gütschow's S and Andreas Schmidt's The City. The former presents a series of Gütschow's large-format black & white urban landscapes comprised of multiple photographs digitally composited. At first glance they are convincing as "authentic" documents, though they swiftly clarify themselves as impossible, mythical representations of modernity. Meanwhile, Schmidt's The City presents stunning color photographs of London's financial district. Devoid of the throngs usually peopling the authoritarian spaces, they are ridiculous, slightly perverse and massive. Copies of both now in stock.

Arriving soon from publisher Gregory R. Miller & Co, The Long Now by Uta Barth. Easily the most ambitious publication on this seminal photographer to date, The Long Now presents more than 300 full-color reproductions spanning Barth's entire career. The title is a perfect invocation of the artist's work, beautiful and deceptively simple compositions of ambiguous, often out of focus spaces. Sparsely populated, they are slow, nourishing explorations of the photographic moment. With insightful new texts by Russell Ferguson, Holly Myers, and Jonathan Crary, this remarkable monograph is a true feast. Copies arriving soon, now available for preorder.

Please note that adding a book to your shopping cart does not reserve a copy; orders must be finalized to appear in our system. However, due to the extremely limited number of some books, we cannot guarantee a copy for every finalized order. New Arrivals and Back-in-Stock items were in stock at the time that this newsletter was sent. Orders will be filled on a first come, first served basis until sold-out.
