Shane Lavalette was commissioned by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta to create a new series of photographs for their 2012 exhibition, Picturing the South. Lavalette's highly anticipated monograph, One Sun, One Shadow, is an extension of this body of work. Native to the Northeast, it was primarily through traditional music—the sounds of old time blues and gospel that Lavalette had formed a relationship with the South. With that in mind, the region's rich musical history became the natural entry point for this project and the resulting photographs. Moved by the themes and stories passed down in songs, Lavalette let the music itself carry the pictures. One Sun, One Shadow includes a text by artist and poet Tim Davis.

Shane Lavalette is an American photographer, the founding Publisher/Editor of Lavalette, and the Director of Light Work. He holds a BFA from Tufts University in partnership with The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Lavalette’s photographs have been shown widely, including exhibitions at the High Museum of Art, Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, Aperture Gallery, Montserrat College of Art, The Carpenter Center for Visual Arts at Harvard University, The Center for Photography at Woodstock, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Musée de l’Elysée, in addition to being held in private and public collections. In 2016, a solo exhibition of One Sun, One Shadow was presented at Robert Morat Galerie in Hamburg, Germany. His editorial work has been published in various magazines, including The New York Times Magazine,The New Yorker, Newsweek, Esquire, Bloomberg Businessweek, Vice Magazine, The Wire, Wallpaper*, among others. Lavalette is currently based in upstate New York. One Sun, One Shadow (Lavalette, 2016) is his first monograph.

The Limited Edition is printed in a numbered edition of 30. Contains a signed print. Housed in a custom wooden slipcase.
