"City Diary comes in a grey cardboard envelope, the distinctive Anders Petersen scrawl giving us title and publisher. Inside are three large paperback volumes, each 9-1/4x12-1/4, the same basic design and format as the now sold out Dear Diary, published as a small limited run exhibition catalogue for the City Diary show. The City Diary book from Steidl and Gun Gallery pulls in more of the images from this 100 image exhibit which presented over 5 years of photographs from Petersen's travels. Many of the images in this book are familiar, having been included in some of Petersen's earlier publications, but the sequencing is notable." — from Sarah Bradley's post on photo-eye Blog. Copies are now in stock and are available for order.
Published by Constrasto, Francesca Woodman: The Roman Years by Isabella Pedicini is a critical and insightful analysis of the work Woodman made during her time in Rome. Arguably Woodman's most productive and important period of artistic development, Italy in the late 70s provided the artist with a canvas to transform and capture herself using the photographic medium in a stylistically innovative manner. This essay book includes Woodman's personal writings and letters as well as observations from friends and insights into her artistic influences that brings to light both the development of her own work and the reasons it is still considered important today. Copies are now in stock and are available for order.
The newest addition to the Blind Spot Series, to draw with light by Uta Barth, brings together images from her series Compositions of Light on White as well as a new series created for the publication of this monograph. Minimalistic in form and color, her drawings with light display perfection in aesthetics and precision, offering subtle tones and delicate abstractions that hint at memory, art history and a quiet ambiance. Copies of the Deluxe edition with a signed and numbered print and the signed slipcased edition are now in stock and are available for order.
Where I Am Now by Kent Klich is the newest addition to the Belly Band Books series. Klich's new title reconnects with the subject of his earlier book The Book of Beth, published in 1989 by Aperture. Beth — a German drug addict and prostitute — is shown in this new publication as a 62 year-old woman carrying the obvious physical signs of drug use. The photographs show Beth aged beyond her years, but contain thoughtful elements of an intimate connection with the artist. Where I Am Now contains a signed print of the photographer tipped-in to the back of the book. Copies are now in stock and are available for order.
Three Out-of-Print titles are being featured this week. We have some of the last remaining copies of Alec Soth & John Gossage's The Auckland Project (Signed), Gerry Johansson's Pontiac and Roe Ethridge's Le Luxe. These are the last remaining copies of these three highly acclaimed titles and we will not be receiving any more once they have been sold out!
We hope you enjoy this week's selection of New Arrivals!
