NEW ARRIVALS +  11.20.10 Vol 7.47

Life Adjustment Center
Arriving soon, copies of the new Ryan McGinley monograph Life Adjustment Center, published by Dashwood in NYC. Here, McGinley presents his world-renowned photographs, shot while on "recent road trips" with a changing troupe of impossibly happy, beautiful and mostly naked young people. Additionally, there is a stunning collection of studio nudes, an extension of his previous Everybody Knows This is Nowhere work. A decade after his first public exhibition, McGinley is turning out the work of an image maker in his prime — relaxed, refined and playfully expanding his strengths. Copies of this stunning monograph are arriving soon, now available for preorder.

Ode to Street Hassle

Also arriving soon,
Ode to Street Hassle (The Boys Are Keeping Secrets) / untitled, nevada 2007 from renowned editorial photographer Samantha Casolari. Presenting two bodies of work, the first shot backstage at fashion week in Milan, the second at the Burning Man festival in Nevada, they are a fascinating conversation — Vivian Westwood and Calvin Klein men pose under gilded arches while dust covered cyclists ride past battling semi-trucks. Casolari shows us two sides of utopia, impossibly glamorous and wildly free. Copies of this stunning publication are arriving soon, now available to preorder.

Just in from Lodima Press, two new titles from the series Portfolios of Brett Weston. Weston’s Oregon is a visually engaging view of a state the photographer fell in love with during the 1960’s and continued to photograph for many years. The 44 pages of this book exemplify Weston’s ability at taking stunning formal images that transcend the genre of landscape photography. Portraits of My Father is a portfolio of 10 images taken of Edward Weston. Taken with a traditional aesthetic, these photographs offer a glimpse into the relationship Brett had with the man who heavily influenced his own photographic path.

Also from Lodima, Balanced Equation by Arno Rafael Minkkinen, a modest portfolio book of recent portraits and self-portraits taken by this Finnish-America photographer. As we have come expect from Minkkinen, the photographs in this book explore the relationship of the human form and natural landscape. The stunning print quality further exemplifies this artists ability at creating superb images with single-negative exposures, without manipulation in the camera or in the darkroom. Only a few copies of all 3 Lodima Press titles are in stock, more will be arriving soon.

Also of note, 3 new books from Photoworks have arrived in the photo-eye Bookstore, Brighton Picture Hunt by Carmen and Alec Soth, Outside In by Stephen Gill and Murmuration by Rinko Kawauchi. To read about all 3 of these titles on the photo-eye Blog, click here.
