Arriving in September from Radius Books, Oceanscapes
by Renate Aller, published in a trade, and splendid limited edition of 25 copies. Oceanscapes
presents 47 images from Aller's ongoing portfolio of photographs taken from a single spot looking out across the legendary Hampton coastline. Within this singular frame, Aller witnesses the radically changing weather, colors and textures as they play out across the seasons. Drawing inspiration from the landscapes of Caspar David Friedrich, they constitute a vivid portrait of the natural world, rich with metaphoric implications. Printed in Germany, the reproductions retain all the splendor of Aller's original prints. The limited edition includes a signed and numbered color archival pigment print mounted to Diasec, which is housed alongside the book in a plexiglass box. We are now accepting preorders for both the limited and trade editions.
Arriving soon from the University Of Texas Press, War Is Personal
the newest monograph from the legendary documentary photographer Eugene Richards. Richards began the work for this book in 2006 out of concern for the public's growing indifference to the horrors of the war in Iraq, and "[criticism] of his own inaction." Richards proceeded to compile 15 real-life stories of American families directly affected by the tragedies of war — the funeral of twenty-two-year-old Army sergeant Princess Samuels, Veterans with life-changing injuries and the grief of families who's loved ones have been lost. The images and text are heartbreaking, and from the book's title to its final page the viewer is presented with Richard's characteristic disarming directness. Copies now available for preorder.
